The course of study
The aim of the Master's programme in Social Work is to acquire sound specialist knowledge and skills for activities in the areas of management, planning and development in socio-pedagogical fields of work. The Master's degree also opens up further possibilities for a scientific-academic career (social pedagogical doctorate following the Master's degree). The broad scientific perspective will be exemplarily deepened in one of three priority areas – ‘Challenges in child and youth welfare’, ‘Participation of persons with disabilities’ or ‘Social work and crime’. This should enable graduates to develop a (individually configurable) socio-pedagogical profile.
5 Reasons to Study Social Work in Siegen
✓ broad scientific foundation and individual focus in different socio-pedagogical fields of action
✓ Proximity to current research at one of the largest locations of social pedagogy in Germany
✓ Studyable both as full-time study and as part-time study
✓ personal accompaniment by small seminar groups
✓ Connection possibilities to a social pedagogical doctorate on site
Career prospects
Although the bachelor's degree in social work and the associated state recognition as a social pedagogue is regarded as a standard degree in social work, relevant studies suggest that an individual combination of higher qualification (master's degree), specific further training and practical experience can increase career opportunities in social work. The Master also opens up further professional fields, for example in science.

Study organisation
Examination regulations/course plans/module manuals/internship regulations
Examination regulations (POs) define the basic structures of a course of study (e.g. entry requirements and content to be studied). For students, the current version of a PO automatically applies when enrolling in the first semester. This means that even in the event of changes to the PO during the course of your studies, the original version according to which you have registered is valid (provided that this PO does not expire).
The respective course plan represents the recommended exemplary course of study in the individual subjects and is part of a PO.
Additional regulations and details for each module to be studied can be found in the module manuals (e.g. prerequisites for taking a written examination or information on the content of the modules/events, ...).
Before the start of the lecture period, we recommend that you at least look at the course schedule of your course of study so that you know which modules are planned for the start of your studies. Frequently asked questions and answers can be found in the FAQ on the Master's programme (Education and) Social Work (https://www.bildung.uni-siegen.de/biso/wissenschaftliche_koordination/faq_master.html). There you will also find the contact persons for your specific questions.
