The course of study

The teacher training programme consists of a 6-semester Bachelor’s programme and a 4-semester Master’s programme, irrespective of the teacher training programme chosen. The University of Siegen offers an undergraduate teaching degree, i.e. it comes to a close interlinking of the subject-related studies with subject-didactic and educational science content from the beginning of the bachelor's degree.

"Family atmosphere"

I decided to start my studies for teacher training at vocational schools at the University of Siegen in 2019. When I was in high school, I was fascinated by the English language. Her sound, linguistics and literature fascinated me. And I wanted to pass this enthusiasm on to others.
However, there was also the question of a second time. After careful research, I finally decided on the subject of Catholic religion, which immediately fascinated me. Due to the diverse combination possibilities of the teaching subjects at the University of Siegen, my wish was also possible without any problems. In addition, many of the subjects are NC-free. Even sport is made possible as a school subject through the cooperation of the University of Siegen with the Sports University of Cologne.

I was particularly impressed by the family atmosphere at the university during my first semester. Here, as a student, you are not merely reduced to your matriculation number, but are perceived and appreciated as an individual personality.

This fact is also reflected in the care offers. There are many institutions at the University of Siegen that are always happy to help you with various problems. Do you have problems with the timetable or questions about studying? In the Lernwerkstatt Lehrer*innenbildung, where I am allowed to work as a SHK myself, we always have an open ear for you. Or would you like to qualify further in your studies? The offer LehramtPLUS offers fascinating workshops and lectures for you.

However, the practical part is not overlooked here either. Through the aptitude and orientation internship, the professional field internship and the practical semester, you get the opportunity to gain valuable experience in everyday school life at various points of your studies.

Study structure

The teacher training programme consists of a 6-semester Bachelor's and a 4-semester Master's programme, regardless of the chosen teacher training programme.

The study program for the teaching profession at primary schools consists of the following elements:

Educational sciences
German for students with a history of immigration (DSSZ)
Learning area I: Basic language education
Learning Area II: Mathematical basic education
Learning Area III or Subject
In-depth study of one of the learning areas or the teaching subject
Aptitude and orientation internship in the bachelor's program
Vocational field internship in the bachelor's program
Practical semester in the master's program
Bachelor thesis
Master's thesis
