I have a high school diploma and would like to enroll for my first degree at the University of Siegen

This is what you need for all degree programmes:

  • Abitur certificate (copy)

For the following courses of study, you will need additional documents:

  • Media studies: Traineeship certificate at Internship Office of Faculty I submit and send the confirmation by 30 September by e-mail to your clerk in the Registrar's Office.
  • Architecture: Proof of the existence of the Fitness check
  • Teacher training courses:
      • Compartments art and music: Proof of passing the aptitude test
      • Sports (DSHS): Study certificate of the German Sport University Cologne
      • Subject Spanish: Knowledge of Spanish at baccalaureate level – proof is provided by the grade in the baccalaureate certificate. If you cannot prove the subject Spanish through the Abitur certificate, you must take a Spanish test.   • European business communication: Proof of language proficiency in French and English at level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (if not attested by the Abitur certificate).

I have a university entrance qualification and would like to enrol for my first degree at the University of Siegen

This is what you need for all degree programmes:

  • application for a declaration of special suitability, which until 15 July to be submitted with the following documents:
  • Certificate of university entrance qualification (copy)
  • Compliant with the requirements of the university General education (average grade in the certificate of the FHR ≤ 2.7 or "good" in the subjects German, English and another subject (in English also by proving level B1 of the European Framework of Reference for Languages) or Fitness tests in the compartments German and English and another subject.)
  • a course-related Technical aptitude (The proof of course-related aptitude has been determined by the faculties for the individual courses of study. You can find the proofs for which courses of study have to be provided here in the overview of subjects. Before applying, please check whether you meet the requirements for degree-related aptitude. Questions about this can be answered by the relevant examination office. At the same time, this also decides whether proof of course-related aptitude is available or whether an examination must be taken.)

I do not have a high school diploma and am already in my professional life and would like to enroll for my first degree at the University of Siegen

This is what you need for all degree programmes:

  • As a Master or equivalent Qualified must an of the following evidence an Ascension Training presented:
    • Master's certificate
    • Completion of advanced training in accordance with the Vocational Training Act or the Crafts Regulations
    • Vocational school graduate
    • Completion of a comparable state-regulated further training course for professions in the health sector as well as in the field of social care and social pedagogical professions
    • Completion of other comparable advancement training regulated by federal or state law
    • The above-mentioned documents qualify for admission to a course of study in all degree programmes.
  • As a professional applicant (professional correspondence between vocational training, professional practice and course of study) you must provide the following evidence:
    • a) Completion of at least two years of vocational training in accordance with federal or state law and corresponding to the degree programme and
    • proof of at least three years' full-time professional activity in the profession learned or in a professionally equivalent profession full-time. Further related vocational training is recognised as a professional activity.
  • If the above-mentioned documents are proven, a corresponding degree programme can be studied. The university decides which profession is relevant for which degree programme.
  • As otherwise professionally qualified you must provide the following evidence:
    • a) Completion of at least two years of vocational training regulated by federal and state law
    • and
    • proof of at least three years' full-time professional activity, including outside the training profession.

The independent management of a family household with at least one person in need of education or care is equivalent to a professional activity required under (b). In principle, periods in which at least half of the part-time employment is available are eligible with the corresponding share.

The following are also counted as professional activities:

  • Voluntary military service
  • the Federal Voluntary Service
  • the Voluntary Social Year
  • the Voluntary Ecological Year
  • Working as a development worker
  • Completion of further vocational training

A regular course of study can be started if either a trial course (in courses that are not restricted) or an entrance examination (in courses with restricted admission) has been successfully completed.

Trial studies

For those who are otherwise professionally qualified, a trial course in all non-restricted Bachelor's degree programmes is required. It takes 2 semesters and is successful if at least 40 credit points are earned within the first 2 semesters. For a successful completion of the trial study, only achievements that are provided during the trial study are taken into account. Credited benefits, e.g. from a previous course of study, are not eligible.

Access test

For those who are otherwise professionally qualified, an entrance examination is only required for all admission-restricted bachelor's degree programs at the University of Siegen. No entrance examination can be taken for admission-free degree programmes.
Those who are otherwise professionally qualified must take these courses of study in order to get a chance to study. The entrance examination determines whether the technical and methodological prerequisites for the specifically selected course of study are present. The content of the exam is general and subject-related knowledge. The exam usually consists of a written and an oral part.
With the average grade of the certificate of passing the entrance examination, an application must then be made via the Unisono online portal of the University of Siegen for the summer semester by 15 January of a year and for the winter semester by 15 July of a year and partly a registration via hochschulstart.de in order to be able to participate in the selection process. In the selection process, applicants with successfully passed entrance examinations compete with applicants with Abitur for study places in the restricted degree programmes and subjects.

An application must also be made for professionally qualified only for admission-restricted courses of study. All applicants for admission-restricted courses of study accept the application in the Online portal before.

Professionally qualified persons, who do not have to take an entrance examination, upload the proof of their vocational training and activity as well as their CV and motivation letter in the application process at unisono. A ranking list is established on the basis of these submitted documents.

  • Proof of the type and duration of previous studies (study programmes/subjects/holidays). This can be proven by course of studies certificates or study certificates, if it is not already evident from the exmatriculation certificate. Performance overviews, so-called Transcripts of Records, are not accepted.
  • Exmatriculation certificates from all universities visited so far

  • For further studies in the same or a related course of study: Certificate from the former university that no examination provided for in examination regulations and no proof of achievement provided for in examination regulations has been definitively failed in the course of study concerned or in courses of study in which the same examination or the same certificate of achievement is mandatory.

2. In our online portal unisono register

Register in a few steps in our online portal unisono, so that you can complete your application / enrollment and upload your documents there.

If you are already studying in Siegen, all you have to do is log in to submit your application/rescription.

3. How do I complete my enrollment and how do I proceed?

How do I complete my enrollment?

Please inform your health insurance company that you plan to study at the University of Siegen. If you are privately insured, let a statutory health insurance company exempt you from the obligation to take out insurance. The so-called H-number of the University of Siegen is H0000671. Doctoral students and preparatory students in "Brücken ins Studium" do not have to notify the health insurance company of the start of their studies.

After the complete upload of all required documents:

To submit all documents in unison, click on the ‘Submit documents’ button and confirm the text in the pop-up window with ‘yes’. The application and the uploaded documents are checked by the University of Siegen. Changes to the uploads and other uploads are only possible after the check. You will be informed by e-mail about the further procedure.

If documents are to be uploaded staggered in stages, this can be done after the upload by clicking on the button ‘Cache changes’. The documents are not yet being examined and the application is not yet being processed!

If all required documents have been submitted in full and the health insurance company has confirmed your insurance status electronically, you will receive a welcome email with important information and the payment request for the semester fee in the next few days. Please transfer the amount immediately, as the enrollment can only be completed when your payment has been received by the University of Siegen.

If documents are missing or incorrect, you will be asked by e-mail to upload the missing or correct documents. In individual cases, the Registrar's Office will request the presentation of certified copies or original documents.


What happens after enrollment?

After enrollment (payment of the semester fee) you will receive an e-mail with information about the student e-mail address, Germany semester ticket, student and university library ID. From September (for the winter semester) or from March (for the summer semester) you will receive an activation code for your Germany semester ticket from VWS (Verkehrsgemeinschaft Westfalen Süd) to your student e-mail address, which must be activated in advance.
