The course of study

In Siegen, you study social sciences not only interdisciplinary, but also research-related. Through the teachers who conduct research in both European and non-European countries, you will experience which research questions the social sciences are currently asking themselves and with which methods they are trying to answer these questions.

We offer you a sound education in the empirical methods of social research, which includes both qualitative and quantitative research methods as well as a thorough training in statistical procedures. In this way, you will be trained for your professional future, in which you are expected to be familiar with the latest research or to be able to carry out social science research yourself.

Career prospects

The Bachelor of Social Sciences qualifies you to use your knowledge of social and political phenomena as well as your knowledge in data collection and evaluation in numerous professional fields. These include, for example:

• governmental and non-governmental organisations, parties and associations;
• foundations or institutions in the field of social services; and
• Media companies and agencies for press and public relations.

Admission requirements

The B.A. Social Sciences programme always begins in the winter semester. Requirements for access are the general university entrance qualification, the subject-specific university entrance qualification or the technical college entrance qualification.
