The course of study

The Bachelor's programme in Mechanical Engineering provides you with basic mathematical and engineering skills. You set your own priorities by choosing engineering specializations. A further objective is to impart social skills or key qualifications such as communication and teamwork skills, presentation and moderation skills as well as the skills to use modern information technologies.

After graduation, you will be able to carry out an engineering job in mechanical engineering companies or in other areas of business. In addition, you can continue your studies in a master's degree program. Upon successful completion of the bachelor's program, the academic title Bachelor of Science, abbreviated B.Sc., is awarded.

During my mechanical engineering studies at the University of Siegen, I was impressed from the very beginning by the versatility of this degree program and the outstanding study program at the Siegen site. Seven institutes with more than twenty chairs offered a wide range of courses, which allowed me to deepen my interests and knowledge. My previously completed vocational training in a large mechanical engineering company from the region made it easier for me to enter the field. Particularly the practice-oriented training with real projects in close cooperation with industrial partners has helped me not only to acquire theoretical knowledge, but also to further develop practical skills and interests, which I can make excellent use of in my current professional practice as a laboratory engineer. Despite the high standards, the study of mechanical engineering at the University of Siegen was easy to complete, not least because of excellent personal and individual support. For example, the close cooperation with the lecturers as well as the support of tutors and mentors, e.g. with regard to exam preparation or study and final theses, was often of great benefit to me. I would always choose to study at the University of Siegen.

Admission requirements

The B.Sc. Mechanical engineering always begins in the winter semester. Requirements for access are the general university entrance qualification, the subject-specific university entrance qualification or the technical college entrance qualification. Applicants with a subject-specific university entrance qualification or a technical college entrance qualification must meet certain entry requirements: Information on application and enrolment.

Before the start of your studies, at least 8 weeks of basic internship: Get to know materials and their machinability, get an overview of production facilities and production processes as well as experience the social side of the work process. The recognition takes place at the Internship Office, must be completed before the start of the Bachelor's programme and must be completed by the end of the 3rd semester. Subject-specific semesters can be proven. At least 6 weeks of practical training during your studies: Complementing and deepening the knowledge acquired during your studies through cooperation in various operational areas and initial familiarization with engineering practice.

Is also offered as a practice-integrated dual course of study (study + practical work in the company).
