The course of study

The study contents of the dual computer science study program are identical to the Bachelor's degree in Computer Science. Parallel to the actual studies at the university, practical work and training in a company are carried out in close coordination in order to achieve a duality between in-company work and scientific training.

The students are in an employment relationship with the company right from the start. They study during the lecture period and go through work and training phases in the company during the semester breaks.

Career prospects

A computer science degree offers a variety of career opportunities in different fields. However, the logical-analytical skills of computer scientists are also highly valued far beyond classical areas, so that computer scientists are among the highest-paid specialists worldwide. Locally, there are many hidden champions in Siegen-Wittgenstein and thus a high potential for exciting jobs in close proximity to the university.

This is what Marcel Link says about his course of study:

‘Theory and practice are closely interlinked.’

The possibility of a dual degree in computer science at the University of Siegen was the reason for me to stay in the region and to pursue my studies in cooperation with a local company. Already in the first semesters, synergies quickly emerged through the close interlinking of theory and practice, which then also ran through the entire course of study and significantly enriched it. Here, the possibility to carry out some practice-oriented modules in the company and to design them according to my area of interest in consultation with the company stood out in particular. Another plus point was the freedom of choice within the specialization and the associated opportunity to specialize in the Bachelor's degree or to position yourself even more broadly. The coordination on a topic for the bachelor thesis between the chair and the company also went smoothly and enabled me to achieve a successful conclusion. On this excellent basis, I was able to start my professional life without any problems and still benefit enormously from the expertise of both worlds conveyed during my studies. I am very pleased that the degree program is offered in a new version and would also decide today for a dual study of computer science at the University of Siegen.
