The course of study

The Bachelor's programme in Computer Science provides broad foundations in computer science as well as a specialisation in a specialisation area. In the first three semesters, various programming and modelling languages are learned, as well as mathematical, theoretical and technical basics. Based on this, in-depth fundamentals of computer science are covered, e.g. computer architectures, computer networks, operating systems, software technology, database systems and machine learning, as well as three (hard and software) internships. In addition to the bachelor thesis, 20-25% of the study volume reserved for an area of application or specialisation. You can choose between Embedded Systems, Visual Computing, Complex and Intelligent Software Systems and Medical Informatics.

I felt comfortable from the first semester and, by choosing my specialisation ‘Visual Computing’, I was able to deal with exactly the topics that interested me most – in my case, the processing of digital images using artificial intelligence methods. In my further courses we were partly under 10 students, whereby the professors knew all students personally/namely. This has enabled me to write my thesis at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) through the contact of a professor with a colleague in the USA and then to do my doctorate thanks to the research experience gained there!

The B.Sc. Computer science begins in the winter and summer semesters.
