The course of study

Especially in times of climate change and the decline of resources, it is the task of civil engineers to rethink construction. In addition to the ‘classic’ fields of activity in civil engineering, the focus of training today is on the following points, among others: Climate impact research, flood protection, energy-saving construction methods, infrastructure concepts for the energy transition, the use of artificial intelligence, sustainable building materials, new waste disposal concepts, new mobility and transport concepts.

The Bachelor's programme teaches the basics of civil engineering (mathematical-scientific and subject-specific basics). In addition, the basic knowledge of the classical topics of construction management, structural engineering, traffic and road engineering as well as water and environment is imparted.

Career prospects

Based on the 17 global sustainability goals of the UN, the "German Sustainability Strategy" sets goals to protect people, the climate and nature in a sustainable manner. However, achieving these goals requires the work of innovative engineers. For example, civil engineers deal with the construction and use of energy-efficient buildings and infrastructure as well as the development of sustainable transport concepts including environmentally friendly building materials, the effects of climate change and forecasts for its development, the flood problem, the avoidance of environmental emissions and waste disposal, and thus create the tools without which sustainable development is unthinkable.

Important information

It is an internship for a total of 12 weeks until the beginning of the 4th semester. Proof of semesters. Of these, at least 6 weeks are to be completed on a construction site, for the further time, activities in the engineering office are also accepted. It is recommended to complete the internship before the start of your studies.

The course of study is also offered as a dual course of study (study + training + practical work in the company). Two degrees are obtained here: Bachelor of Science and an IHK professional degree.

Section I – Basic studies
1.-2. semesters (DUAL: 1st - 4th semester)
