The course of study
The teacher training programme consists of a 6-semester Bachelor’s programme and a 4-semester Master’s programme, irrespective of the teacher training programme chosen. The University of Siegen offers an undergraduate teaching degree, i.e. it comes to a close interlinking of the subject-related studies with subject-didactic and educational science content from the beginning of the bachelor's degree. In addition to the subject-specific didactics relevant for subject-specific teaching, the requirements of subject-specific teaching can be better met by means of subject-specific teaching didactics. At the University of Siegen, a further qualification in the field of special educational support is possible for teaching at primary schools with a 2-semester postgraduate master's degree.

Since the winter semester 2023/24, I have been studying teaching at primary schools with integrated special education at the University of Siegen. The course consists of basic mathematical education, basic linguistic education, a third subject of your choice and educational sciences with integrated support pedagogy. My choice fell on non-fiction as a third subject, as this already inspired me during my own elementary school time and I find the diverse content both in the studies and their later implementation in the lessons as very exciting. The University of Siegen offers the special opportunity to obtain two double-qualifying master's degrees.
After references to the funding priorities ‘Emotional and Social Development’ and ‘Learning’ are already established during the Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes, these can then (optionally) be further deepened in the two-semester postgraduate master’s programme ‘Teaching for Special Educational Support’. In addition, there is the possibility to expand your profile through an additional certificate program in the field of sports education and training or in the field of gender studies.
A special place at the University of Siegen are the many subject-specific and cross-school learning workshops. There you will not only find a place to learn, but also contact persons who can help you with your questions about your studies. During the lecture period, there are always events to make new contacts. The offer is supplemented by excursions, lectures and workshops to look beyond the horizon of teacher training studies. Due to the manageable size of the university, the small seminar sizes and the good supervision by the lecturers, you too are sure to quickly settle into Siegen.
The city and the University of Siegen offer a wide range of leisure activities: a relaxing afternoon in the castle park, nature and leisure sports in and around the greenest city in Germany, a relaxing evening in the upper city, a film evening at the student cinema “Panoptikum” or the varied courses of university sports, where there is something for everyone.
See you in Siegen.

Master programmes
At the University of Siegen, it is possible to obtain two full-fledged (i.e. double-qualifying) master's degrees:
- teaching in primary schools and
- Teacher Training for Special Needs Education
Based on a 10-semester course of study Teacher training at primary schools with integrated support pedagogy (6 semesters Bachelor and 4 semesters Master), in which courses with a content-related connection to the funding priorities "Emotional and Social Development" and "Learning" are already studied, the subsequent 2-semester Master "Teaching for Special Educational Support" enables the additional acquisition of the teaching qualification for Special Education with the funding priorities "Learning" and "Emotional and Social Development". An important goal of this course of study is the intensive preparation of prospective teachers for dealing with pupils with behavioural problems and learning impairments in inclusive learning groups and at special education schools.
