The degree programmes

In the modern industrial environment, engineers are in demand who, as cross-border commuters between engineering and computer science, combine the way of thinking of both disciplines. Since this usually starts with a different mathematical orientation, an integrated bachelor's degree program is advantageous, which combines both perspectives from the beginning:

  • Engineering: Orientation to physical (also dynamic) processes with differential calculus, integral calculus and differential equations
  • Computer science: Discrete mathematics with combinatorics, number and graph theory, cryptography

Therefore, the University of Siegen offers the following degree programs:

  • Digital Engineering - Mechatronics
  • Digital Engineering – Mechanical Engineering
  • Digital Engineering – Electrical Engineering

Digital Engineering – Mechatronics is a course of study that includes similar parts of mathematics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science and individual focuses (compulsory electives).

5 reasons to study Digital Engineering in Siegen

✓ Unique courses of study: Only very few universities have similar concepts. Classical engineering courses are taught with extensive computer science parts.
(Software & AI) combined.

✓ Modern engineering courses: Due to the scope of 7 semesters, it is possible to maintain all important engineering parts and to meet the current requirements for engineers.

✓ Excellent career prospects: The demand for engineers with software and AI know-how is high and continues to rise.

✓ Good care: Due to the close contact with the lecturers, students have the opportunity to receive personal and individual support in the event of problems.

✓ Attractive location: As the most forested district in Germany, the Siegen-Wittgenstein area offers an attractive environment and a wide range of leisure activities. At the same time, the university is well integrated into urban life, which can make everyday study life pleasant.

Career prospects

The impulse study of the Association of German Machine and Plant Manufacturers (VDMA) states: “Digitally networked innovation takes place at the crossroads of disciplines, in particular by engineers and IT specialists. This requires openness and interdisciplinary understanding’. The new integrated degree programmes meet these challenges.

Important information

Before the start of your studies, at least 8 weeks of basic internship: Get to know materials and their machinability, get an overview of production facilities and production processes as well as experience the social side of the work process. The recognition takes place at the Internship Office, must be completed before the start of the Bachelor's programme and must be completed by the end of the 3rd semester. Subject-specific semesters can be proven.

At least 6 weeks of practical training during your studies: Complementing and deepening the knowledge acquired during your studies through cooperation in various operational areas and initial familiarization with engineering practice.
