The course of study

In the Master's programme in Media Culture, you will deal with current media in a research-related manner – from film and image to games and social media to AI. It covers apps and interfaces, but also social phenomena such as protest movements or technological developments such as the Internet of Things. Cultural, aesthetic, social and technological aspects are related to each other. Current theory formation and innovative methods are central features of the Master's program. During your studies, for example, you will learn how to conceptualize and carry out research projects on your own responsibility.

The Master's programme Media Culture puts research at the centre! He either prepares you for a doctorate in media studies, or he qualifies you for research and innovation-related tasks in media-related professional fields. This includes editorial, conceptual and advisory activities in media companies as well as the analysis of digital media practices, technologies and developments.

Admission requirements

1) Bachelor's degree in Media Studies or
2) completed first professionally qualifying university degree in comparable courses of study. Students must good Prove knowledge in the fields of media theory, media history and media aesthetics or analysis to the extent of 18 credit points (LP). According to the specifications of the Technical Examination Committee, no prior knowledge can be acquired until the end of the second semester. Semesters in the amount of a maximum of 9 CP can be rescheduled.

In addition, a minimum grade of good (2.5) is to be assumed for the approval process.

Framework examination regulations (RPO-M) and the general subject-specific regulations of the subject examination regulations (PHIL-FPO-M) define the general framework conditions for studying in Siegen and at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities.
In addition, subject examination regulations of the individual (sub-)courses (FPOs) determine the basic structures of a (sub-)course (e.g. entry requirements and content to be studied). The subject examination regulations are accompanied by course plans, which represent the recommended exemplary course of study in the individual subjects, as well as module descriptions (content information on modules).
For students, the current version of an FPO automatically applies when enrolling in the first semester.
